Programs and Projects:
Our main programs are:
1. Community Giving Campaign We raise funds from the community to benefit the nonprofit sector. In 2006-2007, the Community Giving Campaign raised over $1.56 million!
2. The Building Community Program We are developing a new program in 2007 called My Colorado™ which will provide a vehicle for young community members (24-39 year olds) to engage in basic philanthropy, nonprofit board service, and community involvement. We also strive to connect community members to each other to discuss issues and raise awareness. We have developed a series of forums with panel discussions on local issues, created an annual volunteer day with over 20 projects by partnering with Volunteer Connection (I Volunteer! Day on April 27, 2007), coordinate hundreds of public speaking opportunities annually for our member nonprofits, fiscal management of both the Denver Employees Emergency Program (DEEP) and the Denver Employees Volunteer Organization (DEVO), and launched a public awareness campaign on the importance of giving and philanthropy.
3. The Nonprofit Sustainability Program. In addition to providing funding and public awareness opportunities, Community Shares is committed to providing technical support, training opportunities, and cost efficiency savings to our member partner nonprofits. This includes: underwriting the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI), a confidential, facilitated forum for nonprofit leaders to share best practices with each other; developing a free training seminar series taught by one of the country's premier nonprofit consultants, Richard Male; public speaking training sessions; and annual reviews of financial statements, 990s, and annual reports for some of our smaller partner member agencies.
